Getting the newsletter up belatedly - MS Word Format.

This month, Hank kindly included a little candy corn bag that I worked up - inspired by a crochet pattern on the net.  (Hope you don't mind the re-formatting I've done to the pattern, Hank.  For such a simple pattern, it is just Too Bloody Long, so I tweaked it to take up less space.) 

I'm also linking to the pattern here, for anyone wanting to print it as a "stand alone".

For the MS Word dis-inclined, a 3rd version will appear in the next few days on...my own blog.

What?  I didn't mention that yet?

Okay.  Once upon a time, the current keeper of the MKG blog opened a Typepad account, with the intention of joining the knitting blogosphere.  Although the personal blog originally envisioned was delayed and delayed, she did and continues to make good use of her typepad space by hosting information for the Memphis Knitting Guild.

This week,I will finally be starting that personal blog.  Rest assured that I'll have a big honking disclaimer on my page that clearly attributes any insightful or or idiotic statements, opinions, comments, etc. to myself, and myself alone.

...and I've made myself a deal that I won't post THERE, without first posting HERE.  Now that should boost my MKG blog posting volume to at least 3 a month, easy!

Important to read if you are going to meeting tomorrow night!

I understand from Marcia that the library was closed today, due to the air conditioning being Out Of Order. Of course, that just doesn’t work in this weather, especially someplace where I suspect they won't let you open the windows...

Watch this space, and watch your email, as Marcia is scoping out possibilities for an alternate meeting site close-by the White Station Library – if needed. I will be sure to stop by if the library does remain closed for a second day, to leave a note on the door re-directing Guild members to an alternate location, if this is possible. So in any case you should be able to stop by White Station and get the 411, even if you are coming direct from work or otherwise unable to check email or this site. (See 8/28 post above this one and let's cross our fingers - LB)

Spring Knitting & Newsletter

Here's this month's newsletter, in MS Word format.

It was said in the NL, but I want to repeat Hank's kudos to Brenda for the 15% discount for guild members at Yarniverse. We had such fun "raiding" the store with Brenda's invite right after last month's meeting, and seeing all the wonderful new stuff for spring!

Tomorrow's program is an informal book review "round table", so be sure to bring a favorite knitting book or 2.  (Does a crochet book count if I rely on it for knitting projects?  Hmmm....)

Michael's Arts and Crafts on Winchester is looking for a teacher for 4 classes a month.  Their event coordinator Allyson B. dropped me a line, which I am passing on.  She writes:

We are looking to hire a new knitting instructor for our class program and I figured I would start my search with your guild. There are so many benefits of teaching at Michael's. Our instructors receive a 25% off discount on your regular price purchases. Our instructors receive 90% of student registration fees for each class.

The meeting is about 1 hour away as I write, and if I can *$@!! get there, I am SO looking forward to tonight's math-minded program.  (And can't believe those words are coming out my - um - fingers.  But it's GOOD math because it's KNITTING math.)

Newsletter, Stitches Midwest

Betcha all would be shocked if I ever posted on the 10th, say!  <sigh>  Anyway, should have passed this one on earlier - sorry, Carolyn.

I'm thinking seriously about attending Stitches Midwest in August ... I wonder if if wouldn't be fun to get together a contingent of knitters to take the trip together. Even if we didn't all go to the same classes, it would be fun to have familiar faces to have supper with and share notes with at the end of the day. I plan to suggest this at the next meeting since these major fiber events seem to fill up really early. (The California Stitches event in February is already largely sold out.)

 

Stitches Midwest hasn't started taking registrations yet, but I've ordered a brochure and am watching their site. In the meantime, would you mind putting a bug in Guild members' ears (eww!) via the website to let them be thinking about this idea? Here's some info you could put on the website if you think this sounds interesting.

Best issue of the year?  I'm avoiding reading the 2006 upcoming book list very closely for fear that the next car payment will instead go to Amazon.com!

Elections tonight.  How can you not attend.  The angst!  The drama!  Oh, c'mon, if you're there, there's less chance we'll elect you to something without your permission!

It's wooly yarn season!

And the 4th Tuesday of the month is nearly upon us.  I really enjoyed this month's newsletter and hope you do too.  As usual,  PDF Version and MSWord Version  - also, Carolyn has kindly provided this  RTF version for readers who'd prefer that over the other formats.

KnitNet, a for-fee online knitting mag (with some features and patterns from each issue free to all visitors), is letting everyone access their entire issue for October.  From the contents page, be sure you click on "start here!", as none of the links below will work.  (Okay, maybe it's just me who was momentarily confounded.)

I'm a little disappointed that the issue feature promised on guilds seems to have been scaled down to feature only a couple of guilds in this issue and the last.  Sadly, you won't find the terrific writeup that Hank did for the guild - but... we are now included in KnitNet's Guild Registry, and the timing is very nice.  This free issue of KnitNet should get a lot of traffic between now and December (when the next issue goes up).

My computer balked at the MSWord version for some quirky reason (probably the same reason my internet goes out during the heat of the day - every day) - please send me an email (memphis_knitters@yahoo.com) if you have any problem with it.

Don't forget those caps for the charity contest, and remember your entry can be kept to enter in the Fair, so long as it is entered in the MIFA/chemo cap catagory.  (In other words, to enter in the Guild's contest, you have to donate the hat, which you will be doing anyway if you enter in the Midsouth Fair's charity catagory.)
